A Cizhou Footed Cup - Song Dynasty
A Cizhou footed cup and dish with brown iron overglaze floral design on one side and a fish on one side. A single character on the inside of the cup. The cup measures 2 ¾” high and is 3 3/8” diameter at the top. The base is unglazed. Along with a Cizhou small dish with a stylized iron brown overglaze flower and leaves on the tan ground.- the foot unglazed. The dish measures 5 ½” diameter by 1 1/8” high. Excellent condition with signs of old burial.

The term 'Cizhou ware' refers to a type of sturdy stoneware produced at many kilns throughout the northern Chinese provinces of Hebei, Henan and Shaanxi. These wares were produced during the Northern Song (960-1127), Jin (1127-1279) and Yuan (1279-1368) dynasties. Cizhou wares are heavily potted and boldly decorated with freely drawn designs. They are called 'popular' ceramics (as opposed to the types produced for the imperial court).
