A pretty little oblong boat shaped Arita dish with a lovely lakeside scene in underglaze cobalt blue. In the lower right we see some tall trees on a peninsula with a small village of huts in the background. In the lower left we find a fisherman poling his boat and behind him a group of low foothills descending to the lake with another lakeside village. In the far background we can see taller mountains and a boat with at large sail coming into view. The dish measures 8 ½ long and is 4 Ό wide at the waist 2 ½ wide at the ends and is 7/8 deep. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. We date it to the Mid Taisho to mid Showa period, circa 1925-1950. There is a mark in a square reserve on the bottom that has been translated as Hakusen. |
