| This is a fine Meiji period censer from the Kutani kilns – done in the typical Kutani color pallete of overglaze enamels in eggplant, green yellow and reds. The censer measures 2 ½” square and is 3 ½” tall to the top of the finial. On the sides are scenes of a sailing boat – the finial is a slightly defined eggplant purple shi shi. On bottom of the censer is a marks that translates as “Fuku” meaning Good Luck of Fortune. We date the censer to the mid Meiji period, circa 1870s-80s. It is in excellent condition - signs of usage can be seen in the traces of burnt incense in the inside bottom. | ||||||||||||||
