This is a particularly lovely small cloisonne dish with a myriad of small and large butterflies and moths covering the entire upper surface of the dish. They come in all sizes and a veritable rainbow of colors – including some goldstone highlights. The underside of the dish is a light mauve or purple with tight cloisons and a turquoise color on the inside of the short foot of the dish. The dish measures 4 7/8” diameter and is ½” deep. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restorations. We date it to the Meiji period, circa 1880s. It will be a fine addition to any collection of fine Japanese cloisonne. |
