 A Print by Haku Maki – 78-3 - Flavour
This is a fine horizontal print by the renowned Japanese print maker Haku Maki (1924-2000). It is entitled 78-3 (Flavour) and is Edition # 25/203. The calligraphy is striking and bold – the small gold dot in the middle of the print provides a fascinating highlight. The print is pencil signed, titled and numbered by the artist and carries the red seal of Maki. It was printed in 1978. The print measures print measures 17 1/4" x 9 3/8" and the image size is 15 1/2" x 7 3/4". It is in excellent condition – there are traces of four old tape marks on the upper edges on the back. The front is flawless.

Haku Maki specialized in mixed media. Blakemore in "Who's Who in Modern Japanese Prints" says - " Two unique qualities of a Maki print are the textures achieved by working the designs in wet cement and the use of Chinese characters as design motifs. The cement on which the designs are inscribed can be worked deeply and precisely, creating prints that look very different from those embossed through other processes." Maki passed away in 2000; as a result his prints are rapidly escalating in price and value as this talented artist will no longer be producing his unique work.
