This is a fantastic studio pottery bowl with a bark like rim and a matte orange interior by the modern master - IMAI HYOE. This orange/ red bowl has the material feeling on its edge like the bark on the trunk of the a tree. The interior, although a matte color, give the impression of looking into the crater of a volcano with ite red hot magman. shoots the preponderant existence impression of making the crater and the magma. think. The bowl slopes slightly from the rear to the front giving it a very dramatic presentation. It is a masterpiece of modern Japanese studio pottery that deserves a place in any collection of fine studio ceramics. The bowl measures 9 1.2” diameter by 2 ½” high at the highest part of the rim. It is in excellent condition with some slight rubbing on the bottom just to the left of the impressed signature,. It comes with its signed original tomabako, or wooden box. The artist was born in Gifu prefecture in Hagiwara Cho origin and studied with Tajimi Toki starting in 1973. The artist’s works have been displayed in major ceramics festivals internationally to wide acclaim. |
