A sweet little Meiji period gin-bari cloisonne bud vase with ten egrets showing on a ground of light blue to light pink. We have read that it was difficult for the cloisonne artists to achieve shading effect like this. The vase is in excellent condition with the exception of a tiny 3/16” nick to the inner rim of the vase. The piece measures 3 ¾” high and is 3 1/8” diameter at its widest. It is not signed. We date it to the golden age of Japanese cloisonne, circa 1905-1925, Meiji period to Taisho period. Gin-bari is a style of Japanese cloisonne which uses lightly tinted clear enamel over a highly detailed foil base which is then stamped with impressed designs like fish scales, bird feet, etc. before the design in added.
