A Modern Japanese Studio Pottery Kogo Irregular Shape
This is a fascinating small incense or cosmetic kogo in an irregular shape of multiple facets. It is pure white pottery with a matte glaze – the only color being the potter’s mark on the bottom of the inside of the piece. It was made by Akiko Uchida, a Japanese artist, living in NYC. The kogo measures 2 3/8” at widest on top and is 1 ˝” high. There is a paper on the inside of the kogo that reads – Incense Box – “Shiro Iwa” – which translates to White Rock and is dated 2002. A classic example of modern Japanese studio pottery that was purchased some years ago from a major dealer in NYC that specializes in modern Japanese studio ceramics.
