Here we have a nice simple globular shaped jug with a pale tan crackle finish and a loosely painted series of four intersecting blue loops and bands at the shoulder. We are sure it is Southeast Asian in origin, but cannot pinpoint the exact country - it could be Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnamese or even Indonesian. Regardless, it is a fine piece of folk pottery. The jug measures 6" diameter and is 5 1/2" high. It is in very good condition - one tiny rim chip on the top rim. The foot of the jug shows plenty of wear. We date it to sometime between 1850-1910 - however, it could well be much older. |
