A Yellow Jade Ruyi Scepter Plaque with Elephant
A Jade Plaque From a Ruyi Scepter

Ovoid form with concave reverse; the material of grayish yellow colour with brownish and lighter markings; carved with an elephant wearing a blanket with "wan" symbol and a floral harness, surrounded with lotus vines issuing from a basket upon the elephant's back, the reverse of the plaque pierced with 4 pairs of holes to affix the scepter. Wood stand.
16th/17th Century
3 1/8" x 2 7/8" x .5"

Condition: chip to lower edge, reverse crudely polished

Private Collection, AZ. Acquired 1970's
