| Exceptional and Fine Cherry "Jackson Press," so called because President Andrew Jackson was said to have had one similar to this--having 2 six light doors on the upper cabinet rather than blind doors. Each "light," or glass pane, has flat, mortised cherry mullions. The interior is fitted with two mortised shelves. The sides of each door are beaded as is the right door on the left edge. A wrought brass snap-closure secures the doors, and the right door has an inset brass escutcheon and an interior lock. Above the doors is a beaded crest rail and a handsome cove crown molding. The upper cabinet rests on the projecting top of the lower cabinet, above two deep, stepped-out frieze drawers, each with two mushroom shaped pulls and an inset brass escutcheon. Below this projecting drawer are two stepped-back paneled "blind" doors, each with chamfered interiors and with an inset escutcheon and lock on the right side. One interior shelf. The doors are flanked on each side by turned half pilasters done in a vase, ring, spool, baluster configuration, above three ring turns, terminating in a block cut above vase and ball feet. Panel construction. Note the wide, gorgeously figured, virgin cherry boards that light up this piece in its restored lacquor finish. Circa 1825-40. 43 1/8" wide x 19 1/2" deep x 86 1/2" tall. | ||
