NICARAGUA TRIPOD PLATE
An unusual form for a tripod, more of a plate than a bowl, with incised dashs forming a circle in the middle of the plate. The mammiform legs are hollow and full of rattles, they have a raised head on the top end and painted vertical lines to most likely indicate the wings of a bird and the center painted and applied line to indicate the birds beak. Slipped overall in red and highly burnished, repaired from three pieces, and a couple of minor rim chips. Bowl only 6" dia. Nicaragua 800-1200 AD
