A fragment of a Roman bowl probably from Gaul. A frieze of animals around the top and below a series of medallions, only two remain, one with a partial human figure, the other with a goose. Length 10 CM Height 6.5 CM.

A Roman bone statuette of Venus. Venus was worshipped for centuries by the Romans as the Goddess of gardens and vegetation before she additionally acquired the attributes of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Venus had many personae including Venus Genetrix [Mother Venus], Venus Felix [Lucky Venus], Venus Victrix [Venus the Victorius] and several others. Roman 3rd-4th century AD. Height [excluding base] 9.5 CM. Deficient as shown.

Lot of eight mosaic glass fragments which are mostly green and yellow, one of white translucent glass with two green stripes probably not ancient. The size ranges from 25 mm to 9mm. Roman 1st cent. to late Byzantine for the bracelet fragment.

SOLD 

A facing head of a God or a bearded man from a Roman sarcophagus, depicted in high relief with an egg and dart cornice at the top. A little chipping and erosion but the face has a nice presence with virtually no loss, a powerful representation, nicely sculpted. Displays well as it has been in my library for many years. Roman circa 1st century AD. Length 23cm {9”}, height 18cm {7”}. The head is 12.1cm high and 9.5cm wide.

A late Hellenistic or early Roman trail decorated glass bead. The body is dark, appearing black, with a delicate pale green trail laid on and dragged into festoons. A superb example in virtually pristine condition, certainly the best of its type in my collection. See Spaer, Ancient Glass in the Israel Museum #153. Circa 1st cent. BCE, 1st cent. CE. Length 33mm, diameter 12mm.

Three crumb beads two are disc shaped and the other round. Rod formed and rolled over small chips of multi colored glass. The larger with green, white and yellow crumbs. The mid sized with white and red crumbs [some losses], the smaller with red and white crumbs. Diameters are 20mm, 15mm and 11mm. 3rd-4th century CE

A mosaic glass eye bead, elliptical in shape but flattened so that the eyes are on the sides. The bead is black with white stripes and the eyes are red with a black center. Intact with the white weathered on one side. Late Roman or early Byzantine. Length 18mm, 8.5 mm thick one way and 12mm the other. Rather scarce since I have not been able to find a parallel.

Bead of dark glass with zigzag white trailing in three registers indicated by straight trails around the bead. Late Roman or early Byzantine C. 4th-5th Cent CE. See Spaer, Ancient glass in the Israel Museum #170 for a similar specimen. Length 32mm, dia.11.5mm.
