A Corinthian aryballos painted with a lotus bud motif. Aryballoi are often pictured on vases as part of the equipment of athletes. Aryballoi most likely contained the oil with which they cleaned their bodies, applying the oil and scraping it off with a strigil. Circa 550 BCE. Ht. 2 1/8th inches [5.3 CM], dia 2 1/16th inches [5.2 CM]. Intact with paint losses as shown.

A Xenon trefoil oinochoe with a high looping handle. The name Xenon ware comes from a kantharos in a Frankfurt museum inscribed with the name Xenon. Created in Apulia the ware was made for a relatively short period between 350-300 BCE. This piece is finely potted with a lustrous glaze and nicely decorated with a laurel pattern around the body and rays on the shoulder. A large fragment of an Apulian rhyton modeled as the head of a Laconian hound. The Laconian hound was valued by both the Greeks and the Romans as a hunting dog to chase large game it also apparently had a keen sense of smell. The modeling of this piece is exceptional as you can sense the skull of the animal under the skin. Rhyta are fairly scarce and the Laconian hound seems to be among the scarcer of the lot.
