A fine and rare signed and dated antique Chinese Ink-Block, of rectangular form scrolled at each end, the front decorated with pavilions and rocky landscape scene, the back decorated with a band of key-fret pattern enclosing a finely carved long inscription with the name and seals of the artist, the side with a five character Qianlong mark and date in relief. REFERENCE : An Imperial ink-block, very similar both in shape and decoration to the present lot, with the Qianlong mark and of the period, was sold in Sotheby's Hong Kong Auction 1989 (see last image).
DATE : Chinese, Qing Dynasty, dated to the Qianlong "jia-wu" corresponding to 1774, but probably 19th Century.
MARK : five character Qianlong mark and date to one side.
SIZE : approximately 5 3/8" length, 2 3/8" width.
CONDITION : excellent condition with minor wear only. No chips, no cracks, and no repairs.
