A very fine and rare pair of early 19th century antique Chinese carved jade cylindrical cricket cages and covers, each of long cylindrical form delicately carved and pierced in mirror image from a stone of good even grayish-white tone with two sinuous dragons reserved on dense floral ground, top and bottom rims finely incised with key-fret bands, the base fixed to an equally well carved and pierced floral pattern black stone stand, the fitted black stone domed covers similarly carved.
REFERENCE : A pair of jade cricket cages with almost identical carvings, also dated to the 19th century, was sold in Bonhams, London 2003 (see last image).
NOTE : We believed these cricket cages may also be used as incense holders.

MARK : no marks or signatures.
SIZE : approximately 8" high with covers.
CONDITION : both in perfect condition, no chips, no cracks, and no repairs.
