A magnificent and very rare 18th / early 19th century Chinese carved mother-of-pearl shell panel on wood stand, the thick and heavy shell panel with scalloped rim, exquisitely carved to the center in low relief with a large melon amongst leafy vine, the border finely carved with a large band of continuous scene of figures in daily live, the lower part of the panel carved with a large carp, the back of the panel left plain and uncarved, the shell has aged to a light golden golden color. An elaborately carved and pierced display hardwood stand of later date is included. NOTE : The style of carving and decoration on the present shell panel suggesting an earlier date than most of its counterpart commonly found to be produced from the mid to late 19th century, the present panel probably carved in the late 18th century.
