A fine and rare antique Chinese "tianhuang" type scholar's Seal form soapstone boulder carving, the irregular stone exquisitely carved in low relief with figures of Luohan in a rocky landscape scene, the lower part of the stone and the base are not carved and unpolished, the stone of rich caramel-brown color transmuting to pale honey tone in places. A carved wooden stand together with a blue velvet-lined presentation box included.

DATE : Chinese, Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1911).

MARK : no mark or signature.

SIZE : the stone approximately 2 3/8" (6 cm) high.

CONDITION : the stone in perfect condition with minor natural fissure cleverly worked into the design. The wooden stand with some minor age splits. No other damages, and no repairs.
