A very fine and large Chinese Republic period famille-rose porcelain vase, delicately potted of an elegant baluster form with a trumpet neck and the body tapered gently towards the splayed foot, superbly painted with an elderly scholar and his two young attendants in a garden scene, with rockworks, pine trees and two magpies hovering above, the neatly finished foot rim exposing a fine paste characteristic of the Republic period ware, interior and underside glazed white, center of the base neatly inscribed with the Hongxian reign mark in iron-red. (Wooden stand not included). DATE : Chinese, early 20th Century, Republic period.
MARK : iron-red four-character Hongxian on base.
SIZE : approximately 13 1/2" (34.3 cm) high.
CONDITION : perfect condition with very minor enamel wear only. No chips, no cracks, and no repairs.
