A good and unusual early 20th century Chinese famille-rose porcelain bowl, delicately potted and finely painted in Yongzheng style with a bird perching on flowering branches, interior and underside glazed white, the base stamped with an iron-red four-character seal mark "Xianshi-jingpin" within underglazed-blue double-circles. (Wooden stand not included). NOTE : The mark "Xianshi-jingpin" (precious object of Xianshi) is commonly found in porcelain made in the early Republic period, where Xianshi, a large Chinese departmental store, was first founded in the 1910's, commissioned some high quality porcelain from Jingdezhen and have their company name stamped onto the base of these ware. The Company is still in operation today.
DATE : Chinese, early 20th Century, early Republic period, circa 1915.
MARK : iron-red four-character seal mark "Xianshi-jingpin" within double-blue circles on base.
SIZE : approximately 2 1/4" (5.7 cm) high, 4 7/8" (12.4 cm) diameter.
CONDITION : in excellent condition, minor enamel wear with two tiny dots of blue enamel adhered to the rim, one pin-prick size glaze nib to the rim noted for accuracy only. No chips, no cracks, and no repairs.
