| An oversized Taisho period work (circa 1915/1920) depicting a pair of exotic foreign birds sheltering from the heat of summer amongst a group of foxgloves. Rich green foliage gives way to long spikes of drooping bell shaped flowers in hues of amaranth purple fringed with pink. Painted on silk with pigments and gofun the work is in good condition. Light marking is visible, particularly in the upper right fields. The pale brocade mounting is from a later date and does buckle outward - even so the painting displays well. The scroll measures 81 by 35 inches. The image measures 57 by 28 inches. The painting is signed and sealed Takuji. We have been unable to trace the artist. | |||||||||||
