| This is a set of 12 woodblock printed shikishi " Noh Sugata Juni Kagetsu " ( Noh Scenes of Twelve Months ) by Sofu Matsuno ( 1899-1963 ) and is dated Showa 31 ( 1956 ). Matsuno was an Noh -ga artist born in Tokyo and learned how to create his works from Kokkan Otake and Kogyo Tsukioka. This set consists of 12 shikishi , square boards done by Unsodo the publisher who is specialized in woodblock prints . It starts from (January) for Takasago,(February) for Hagoromo,(March) for Kumano,(April) for Dojoji,(May) for Ishibashi, ( June) for Soshiarai Komachi,(July) for Ukai,(August) for Matsukaze,(September) for Kikujido,(October) for Izutsu,(November) for Hanagatami, and Sho-jo in December . Because he was instructed by the 2 famous artists, his early works show their strong influences, but he established his own style which can be seen on these prints. Every shikishi comes with Sofu's signature and title in English on the back, so they are easy to understand and it comes in original hard cover. There is slight patina on white areas , flaws around the rims, but all pictures are in good condition. 10.7" H x 9.5" W x 1.25" ( Thickness of outside cover ) ( 27.3 cm H x 24 cm W x 3.2 cm ) Thickness of outside cover ) Weight is 2 lb. 7oz ( 1112 gms ) | ||
