A very amusing antique Japanese scroll with Bon Odori (dancing skeletons) planting rice. Meiji period, circa 1880. Signature and seal unread. 65 1/2 inches by 17 1/2 inches. In very nice condition, commensurate with age, with some minor water stains on the bottom roller. Boxed.

A very charming studio pottery master Kogo, large incense container for tea ceremony, in the form of a rabbit. Masterfully glazed in Temmoku style with blue, green, red, and white overglaze accents. It measures approximately 5 inches long by 2 1/2 wide by 3 1/2 inches high. In perfect condition. Circa 1900. More photos are available by request.

A very unusual and expertly carved Anglo Indian rosewood extending book rack. Both ends are carved in minute detail with cranes among grapevines. The extending platform sits on four typical Georgian feet, the edges embellished with leaves. A super piece in great condition, although two of the feet appear to have old repairs. Circa 1840. A most interesting Japanese hanging scroll painting of a mythological beast called Haku. The Haku are horse-like, have a single sharp horn, and thick tiger-like paws with claws instead of hooves. Their skin shines silver when hit by light. They can fly long distances faster than boats can travel them. They are omnivorous, and their voices are several pitches higher than that of horses. A large and well carved Tibetan Shaman's ritual powder horn. Carved in the shape of a Makara with Sanskrit characters, a Stupa, a scorpion and zodiac turtle carved on the body. Yak horn, with an iron ring and wooden stopper Mid to late 19th century. Collected in 1972. 8 inches long, and 2 inches at the widest point.

Masterfully carved with expressive eyes and smile, this mask appears to be signed by the carver on the back and is in excellent condition with only a bit of wear and some discoloration to the white lacquer due to age. The mask measures 8 1/2 inches from forehead to chin and is almost 5 1/2 inches wide. More photos are available by request. Late 19th early 20th century.

A very early, possibly pre 18th century, Tibetan four pronged double vajra with stylized makaras and lotus, and an iron core at the center the prongs. This piece has an exceptionally deep, almost black, patina with signs of wear that can only be the result of centuries of use. The best we have ever had the pleasure of owning. Size: 12 cm (4 3/4 inches)from tip to tip by 4 cm (1 1/2 inches) thick.

Interesting Japanese lacquer libation cup imitating Tamba or Shigarake pottery with glaze drips running down the sides, hand thrown foot, and cut sides. The interior is lacquered in gold over black with wonderful patina from use. The exterior lacquered in chocolate brown with dark brown drips, a carved and and gold lacquer Kanji character, and a small copper Kiku grommet with attached silk cord.
