A very amusing antique Japanese scroll with Bon Odori (dancing skeletons) planting rice. Meiji period, circa 1880. Signature and seal unread. 65 1/2 inches by 17 1/2 inches. In very nice condition, commensurate with age, with some minor water stains on the bottom roller. Boxed.

A most interesting Japanese hanging scroll painting of a mythological beast called Haku. The Haku are horse-like, have a single sharp horn, and thick tiger-like paws with claws instead of hooves. Their skin shines silver when hit by light. They can fly long distances faster than boats can travel them. They are omnivorous, and their voices are several pitches higher than that of horses. A charming Japanese scroll painting of a beautiful young woman sitting on a veranda and watching the early summer rain. Circa 1910, with period mounting and blue and white porcelain roller ends. A superb scroll painting by Taiko Okamoto (1879-1945) of Jigoku Dayu, the legendary Hell Courtesan, depicted here wearing a kimono with a golden dragon rising from the sea, and with a haughty expression tempting the viewer by casually exposing her neck. Superb. Scroll size: 22 inches by 77 inches. Image size: 16 3/4 inches by 48 1/2 inches. Nicely mounted and in very good condition, commensurate with age. No major flaws. Antique Japanese Scroll Painting Late Edo, early Meiji periods Circa 1860 Finely pained on silk with natural stone ground pigments. Signed and sealed by the artist This scroll appears to have been remounted at least once. There is an old repair to the top left side of the mounting, and a few small wormage holes, mostly at the top. Scroll size 74 x 20 inches Lacquered wood scroll ends. Very nice quality mounting. In very good condition commensurate with age. More photos available by request.
