Age: Early-Mid Edo Period.

Details: This Suji Kabuto features classic 32 plate design. Each plate has been hand crafted with a multi layered tehen at the top. The 5 lame hineno style shikoro is finished with black lacquer. The Hachi has shiten-no-byô and hibiki-no-ana. The shiten-no-byô are four small, protruding rivets. Each rivet is placed high on the bowl. Directly below this rivet is a small hole, the hibiki-no-ana. Originally, there was a knot of lacing at each hole to support the liner. In this case they have been lacquered over. This Kabuto was russet iron when it was first made but was lacquered black sometime during the Edo period. There is also a signature on the Hachi but has yet to be translated. The Menpo is included and is in good condition. Both pieces are original to the Edo period and exhibit the usual wear that would be expected.
