"SOLD"

Japanese Samurai "Manju Wa" Armored Vest
Age: Mid Edo period.

Remarks: A very rare armored waist coat called a "Manju wa". This was made for a very high ranking Samurai and was worn beneath his armor to protect his armpits and upper chest. It is made of beautiful silk brocade trimmed in egawa doe skin. The collar is a dark blue brocade over kiko or leather plates. The leather plates are also made into the entire vest within the fabric layers. This is a very heavy piece and one seldom seen in samurai armor collections.
