This is a rare and unusual Japanese Ivory vessel with a removable cap. This vessel is possibly a spice dispenser or opium container. A spice dispenser is more likely. This finely detailed piece came from the same estate as the Ivory/Satsuma alter set. It may have even held incense for use at the alter. The detail is excellent. The "Wasp Carvers" were an early group of talented carvers who always included a "Wasp" in their final design. Please feel free to email any questions.

This highly unusual and RARE alter piece came from a local Japanese estate. The two side carvings are Boar's Tusks. The center piece is a carving in Ivory of a Man holding a long pole with a beautiful and very old two-piece Satsuma Ball. The Satsuma Ball is painted both inside and out with some of the most delicate work that I have seen. This "IS NOT" a piece made for the tourist trade but was likely a highly treasured family heirloom. The stand and Satsuma two piece sphere measure ...click for details

P.O.R.

This fine Japanese elephant Ivory carving came from the same estate auction as the Man and Boys carving previously listed and is likely from the same period. I can account for over seventy years of age for the piece. I assume that it is from the middle of the 19th century and signed. The detail is exceptional. The carving is a full 11.00" tall. Please feel free to email any questions.
