This highly unusual and RARE alter piece came from a local Japanese estate. The two side carvings are Boar's Tusks. The center piece is a carving in Ivory of a Man holding a long pole with a beautiful and very old two-piece Satsuma Ball. The Satsuma Ball is painted both inside and out with some of the most delicate work that I have seen. This is an early Satsuma Ginger Jar. It appears that some of the gold gilt may have been restored. It is still a finely decorated J Jar. The jar measures 5.0" in height and is 3.5" in diameter.
This is a truly beautiful work by the Satsuma artist Kinkozan. The deep cobalt blue body has a wonderfully executed border with what could only be described as fabulous.Gold bands are separated into panels by six mons. At the plates center is a group of colorful butterflies. This is a fine example of the outstanding work of the famous Satsuma Artist Kinkozan. The body of the Teapot is a rich Cobalt blue with artistic detail expected in a Kinkozan piece. The top is an excellent fit but likely not original. The impressed Mark is well defined and makes this a truly desirable piece for any Satsuma collector.The Teapot is in excellent condition with the exception of some expected gilt loss from a piece of this age.
