For your consideration is a fine two piece Renaissance Revival bedroom set which dates to around 1865. Although they are not a perfect match, the dresser and the bed go very well together.
What is quite unique about this set is its history. According to research and the documentation that arrived with this set, the beautiful suite came from the room where F. Scott Fitzgerald spent approximately six months (January-June 1937) in the Oak Hall Hotel in Tyron North Carolina, while his wife Zelda Fitzgerald entered Highland Hospital, in Asheville, North Carolina. This has been documented by the previous owner who purchased the set directly from the Tryon’s Oak Hall Hotel which auctioned off its contents and closed its doors in 1979. The set is made of walnut, in great condition, and it will just clear a standard eight foot ceiling. The bed has a number of outstanding carvings, along with large finials on the end of each side pillar. The well-carved crest is massive and approximately 5" thick. The dresser features burl panels in the areas around the key escutcheons. The marble is in very good condition, no cracks or chips, only a minor stain in a corner. The drawers have hand cut dovetails, and the topmost drawer is compartmentalized in birdseye maple. Circa: 1865 Condition: Excellent, Restored Finish: Original Dimensions: Bed 93.5’’H X 83’’L X 65”W Exterior and 77’’L X 56’’ Interior Dresser: 90''H X 58''W X 23''D Please refer to item 1014A for pictures of the bed.
