| A wooden votive statue from West-Nepal, Jajarkot or Jumla area. The thick crusty patina formed by libations shows this statue was kept inside. As a group these statues are found in shaman's temples in the West of Nepal. On their purpose and use there's still much discussion. Some are believed to represent local deities and some may be representations of ancestors. A significant part is believed to be votive statues, donated by villagers seeking protection or healing from a disease. The exact age is hard to tell but I think mid 20th century is well on the safe side. Dim.: height 34,5cm. | |||||||||||||||
