| Cast iron head of a guardian. Probably Shanxi province. Period early Ming or Yuan. Height (excluding stand) 21cm. The casting is extremely heavy which is good indication for an early date. The weight is almost 6kg and the thickness at the neck 13mm. At the hairknot there is an area that is either a casting fault or damage in relation with the destruction of the statue. It is possible it was hit that hard with a heavy object that a chip flew off. What one can see here as well are the air bubbles in the casting. These imperfections are good indication for it's originality. The edge of the neck where it was attached to the statue shows a natural irregular line. It is fairly smooth and has the same patina as in other areas, a sign that it was seperated from the statue a very long time ago. Comes with a stone socle. | |||||||||||||||
