| A panel from a court robe featuring a 5 claw dragon (Long). Dim. 49x81cm with one selvage at the right side. The colour is greenish-yellow and light of tone. The backside shows the same light tones of colour. I don't have the impression that there is strong fading; the colours used are all just soft. The structure of the silk appears to be typical for the 1740-1750 period, early Qianlong. It's without doubt a Forbidden City textile intended for the Imperial circle. In the mid 18th century the use of a five claw dragon was restricted to this small group. Condition: a hole near the dragon's head. What appear to be black spots are loose black (modern) threads that can be easily removed. | |||||||||||||||
