The canvas used has been composed from four separate pieces which doesn't exactly give the impression that we are dealing here with a wealthy family. The canvas itself is not in a very good condition. There are some small holes and there's a crack running horizontaly through the face of the lady. There are stains and it is darkened by smoke. Despite all this it's a nice portrait. Canvas, paneled and remounted on a scroll. Shanxi province. The subdued colours used point to the early 19th century. Dim.: LxW (painting) 83x69cm.
