David Bowie and Candy Clark in the MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH. Directed by Nicholas Roeg.
Two vintage original and unique books which contain 231 original stills, each measuring 8 x 10 inches, dry-mounted (as is the custom with key books) onto pages of two 11 x 9 inch post-bound books. Each still is accompanied by a number sticker on each page edge that was the original negative number issued to each still when copies were required for duplication for the press. The quality of these stills, and the rarity of many, cannot be underestimated. RARE & UNIQUE. Books measure 14 x 9 inches. Stills measure 8 x 10 inches (some very minor variations). Books are complete and are “bound” with removable metal posts. Several of the shots included are behind the scenes stills of the various stars with director Nicolas Roeg while others are off-set portraits. More importantly for collectors of the film, there are numerous shots of the alien world, transporter and Bowie in alien make-up and costume. Several stills within the book were “killed” – that is, were designated not to be used – in particular those showing a near naked Bowie both in his alien sexual form and in a sex scene with Candy Clark. They were designated as “kills” by having an orange wax crayon marked across them – see scan above. Please note however, this marking can by removed with a soft, dry cloth as was done on several of the stills over the years. This is perhaps the single most stunning black and white photographic record of this remarkable film. Many of the stills, apart from the “killed” shots, have never been published, or even used as press stills.
Contents consist of: A total of 231 stunning and original stills - the most comprehensive collection of original first generation black and white images from this film, that was a benchmark in science fiction cinema and major career high point for one of the greatest artists of popular music. |
