Dancer CLOTILDE von DERP Postcard | Germany 1910s
The dancer CLOTILDE von DERP

Rare vintage postcard (unused)
3.5 x 5.5 inches, slightest of edge wear
Verl. Herm. Leiser, Berlin Wilm. 6633
Phot. Debschitz-Kunnowski

The dancers Alexander Sacharoff (1886-1963) and Clotilde von Derp (1892-1974) earned a reputation far beyond Germany with their unprecedented approach to dance and the visual arts in the early twentieth century. Their highly original dance style, primarily based on sources taken from the arts of classical antiquity and the Renaissance, played a crucial role in the emergence of the avant-garde in both dance and art.
