MATEGOT and JOUVE Bear's Claw ashtray / France 1951
Georges JOUVE and Mathieu MATEGOT

Bear's Claw ashtray and metal stand
Glazed ceramic, iron, rattan
13 w x 11.5 d x 24.5 h inches marked with Jouve's cypher

During the 1950s, Georges Jouve frequently collaborated with his good friend, the well-known furniture designer Mathieu Matégot. The 'Bear's Paw' ashtray, in particular, was designed to go with Matégot's perforated metal furniture. The model later became known as the 'Matégot' Ashtray. It came in a variety of glazes that were either crackled, glossy or matte.
