Back in the 1930's to 1950's The Wade Pottery Co., in England, made these wonderful little decanters to hold the whiskey from various companies ~ much more decorative than the simple glass bottles of today! A Stunningly beautiful Black Forest Deer Head Barometer & Thermometer! Circa 1880's. The carved wood casing is lovely! The deer head has only a minor piece of antler missing (see enlargements). The Mercury Thermometer seems to work, but the Barometer appears to be stuck. Glass is intact. Casing is sound and sturdy! Measurements: 19 1/2" tall x 9" at widest point.

This is a delicate and rare find. I purchased this exquisite piece of toile in Paris. I, and 3 other antique dealers, have dated this to be from the 1780's. It retains a lovely faded gold tones. The fabric is in very worn condition, no tears, but several holes. I see it framed, but it could be cut for a few pillows. A real beauty!
