$1845.00 On hold

This is a really beautiful sculptural work of tribal art. Rare and finely carved using stone and shell ( shell scraping evident on the nicely patinated surface ). Reminds me of the woodland Native American carved burl bird bowls. Figural work from Santa Cruise is rare, and I have only seen two other examples of figural bowls. They are more common from the Admiralty Islands of Papua New Guinea. This great piece is about 14.1" long by about 4.3 by 4.1". No repair or restoration. ...click for details

Fine and very old stone carved pre-contact ceremonial adze from the Boiken people who live near the Prince Alexander Mountains in Papua New Guinea. It also has the original clam shell blade. Carved with 2 powerful ancestor totem faces on the and the unusual feature of several ancestor faces on teh handle. 24" long, I did have to use a fixative on the piece to keep the heavily encrusted patina from falling off other than that no restorations or repairs. Dates to about 1900, ex. Michael H ...click for details

This is a pristine pair of feather nose ornaments from the Santa Cruise islands in the Solomon Islands. These are from the collection of Harry Beasley and were purchased from Norman Hurst Gallery in 1995, they are published in his catalog " Power and Prestige " Melanesian art. I have a copy of the catalog for sale also. It is very rare to find old pieces like this in such pristine condition, if I recall, Mr. Beasley died in the 1950's. They are accompanied by a feather bracelet ...click for details
