Important Teddy Weahkee Zuni Native American frog ring
This ring has been authenticated as having been made by Teddy Weahkee by the foremost expert in Zuni fetish carvers in the world -- I will give the name and a copy of the email to the purchaser of this ring. Teddy Weahkee was a world war I veteran who began making fetishes and jewelry in the 1920's. He worked into the 1950's, his daughters Edna Leki and Mary Tsikewa were also fetish carvers as well as his grand daughters Lena Boone and Dinah Gasper. He was a contemporary of Leo Poblano, John Gordon Leek, Leekya Deyusee, and others. The frog in this ring is very typical of his style, frog is jet on a turquoise " background " and is entirely hand polished using files and hand abrasion -- no machines. The silver in the ring is also all hand wrought, with delicate stamping, which makes this an early piece, possibly from the 1920's or 1930's. The face of the ring measures about 7/8" by 15/16", and the ring is size 10 1/2. Worn from decades of use. Excellent condition for its age. No markings. A very rare find.
