Atlantic watershed cup with slightly flared rim standing on three pointed legs. Incised geometric decoration on the outside wall heightened with applied white pigment. Ceramic. Costa Rica, Atlantic Watershed, Late Period, 1-500 AD. H. 8 cm (3.1 cm), D. 11.9 cm (4.7 in) Pristine condition with carefully burnished surface. One leg reattached, otherwise intact. Legs and incised decoration enhanced with applied white color. Root marks. Swiss art market.

Naked dwarf squatting on a rectangular plinth and holding his hands in front of the belly. The head with big almond-shaped eyes, thick nose and nice archaic smile. The hair on the back with horizontal steps. This kind of paunchy dwarf figurine is thought to be inspired by the dwarf god Paitakos, the Egyptian patron of children. For a Rhodian example cf. S. Carved female head with round face, linearly drawn large eyes with faint irides, straight nose and full lips. The hair drawn upward over the short forehead. Bone. Egyptian, Roman/Coptic Period, 3rd-5th Century AD. H. 5.6 cm (2.2 cm), H. with stand 15.1 cm (5.9 in). Broken at neck level. Expressive carving. Swiss art market.

Broad-bottomed vessel decorated with two panthers facing each other, two grazing ibexes and a third feline between them. The decorated area reminds of the style of the Elvehjem Painter. Ceramic. Corinthian, ca. 600 BC. H. to handle 15.5 cm (6.1 in), D. 13.5 cm (5.3 in). Intact except for a missing shard out of the trefoil spout. The black glaze is delicate and worn, the incisions on the animals and the ornaments are however neat and clearly visible. Swiss public auction.

Greek and Italian Black-Gloss Wares in the Royal Ontario Museum. Toronto 1984. Ceramic. Athens, 320-280 BC. H. 9.7 cm (3.8 in), D. 8.4 cm (3.3 in), W. over handles 16.4 cm (6.4 in). Flat-bottomed aryballos with two neatly incised male busts showing big eyes and pointed chins. The hair is tied in a tuft (krobylos) by a fillet and falls gently along the shoulder. The busts alternate with geese. Rosettes in the field. Radiating strokes on shoulder and rim. Best parallel for the style is Utrecht Univ. 60, Male sirens facing swan, in: D.A. The winged Eros is holding a phial with both hands to pour out some liquid. A cloth is wrapped around the god’s belly, the upper end flapping in the wind in front of the wing. The appliqué was attached to a bronze vessel as discernible from the remains of solder at rear. Bronze. Roman, 1st/2nd Century AD L. 5.5 cm (2.1 in). Intact. Swiss private collection.

Nice Egyptian terracotta head of a boy with chubby features. The face with smiling and slightly purse lips, a fleshy nose and heavy eyelids. Tiny holes on the cheeks and Venus fold on the neck. Terracotta. Egyptian, 1st Century AD. H. 4.5 cm (1.7 in), H. with stand 10.8 cm (4.25 in). Excellent modeling. Broken below the neck, back side of the head missing. Art market.
