| The large almond-shaped eyes contoured with carved lines. The edged head shows a linear rendition of the snout and the mouth. The vestigial ears appear behind the missing horns. The triangular patch of hair on the forehead with a square hole that connects with a channelling carved along the animal’s neck. The head protome served as spout on a now lost basin. Bulls were associated with renewal throughout much of South Arabia, and the motif appears frequently on stelae found in cemeteries. Shell limestone. H. 5.5 cm (2.2 in). Arabian Peninsula, Sabaean, 2nd century BC-AD. Cut off from a basin. Expressive rendering of the details. Horns missing. Nice dendrites on the surface.
