Red garnet bowl with the rare motif of a butterfly flying upon a torch.
The butterfly is related to Eros. Its connection with the torch represents the concept of blind love searching for the light by which it is consumed. Garnet bowl Roman, 1st/2nd century AD. 1.06 cm (0.4 in) x 0.39 cm (0.2 in) Upper side intact with a few scratches, tiny chip out of the reverse.
