| Rare cup with vertically pierced strap handle broadening at the level of two apotropaic eyes. The rounded bowl with an almost vestigial rim. Enhanced with delicate geometric design, lines and bands. The bottom with a wheel motif and pairs of dotted circles. For the slit handle cf. plate 20, fig. 1b in: Ettore de Juliis. La Ceramica Geometrica della Daunia. Florence 1977. The careful monochrome decoration, together with the apotropaic eyes lead to an early date. Ceramic. Daunia II, Subgeometric I, 700-550 BC. H. handle 8.9 cm (3.5 in), H. rim 4.5 cm (1.77 in), D. rim 11.1 cm (4.4 in). One shard out of the wall restored. Outstanding decoration with fresh preservation of the applied colors.
