An Elamite terracotta jar measuring 5 cm in height with a circumference of 19.2 cm and dated ca. 1000 BC. The clay is an orange color with a gray slip that has turned white. Decorations on the jar are a black pattern of bands and hatched lines. The body is quite bulbous growing to a slightly restricted neck and a flaring rim. The jar was excavated in southern Iran and shipping is free. The pedestal base is flat and the jar is in excellent condition with a small amount of earthen encrustation.

The Elamite civilization with the capital of Susa was located in the extreme southwest portion of present day Iran. The period when this jar was manufactured is referred to as the Neo-Elamite Period, ca. 1100 - 770 BC. This type of jar might have been used as a container for perfumed oils and/or a funerary object.

A remarkably beautiful Bactrian bronze animal amulet excavated in Uzbekistan and dated ca. 2000 BC. The amulet measures 2.3 cm in length and is 1.6 cm high. The article is covered with a heavy green patina and a dirt encrustation. There is a suspension loop at the top and the amulet is completely wearable. The item is in excellent condition.

The Bactrian Culture began with migrations from the north into what is now Uzbekistan ca. 3000 BC. The capitol city was Baktry. Bactrian craftsmen were especially skilled in the area of rock carvings. Also, they did superior work with bronze weapons and stamp seals.

A very nice Mesopotamian terracotta incantation bowl excavated in southern Babylon and dated to the 6th century AD. The bowl measures 6.5 cm in height with a circumference of 48 cm and a diameter of 15.3 cm. Aramaic characters surround the inside of the bowl and the figure of a demon is on the inside bottom. Shipping is free and the base of the bowl is rounded but stands alone. The item has been repaired and two or three pieces are missing. The bowl is in good condition.

Incantation bowls, sometimes known as magic bowls and/or demon traps were often buried under the floors or thresholds in homes to protect the residents from evil spirits or demons. Spells in a spiral form were written on the inside of the bowl beginning at the bottom, where there was frequently a painted figure. When the demon tried to enter the home he/she was trapped in the bowl with the magic spells against them.

A beautiful Canaanite glazed steatite scarab measuring 2 cm and dated 2200 - 1950 BC, the Middle Bronze Age I. Three vertical columns of glyphs are on the face and the details are extremely clear. The drill-hole is partially plugged and the left clypeus is chipped. Shipping is free and the scarab is in very fine condition.

The very close relationships between Egypt and Canaan are shown in this scarab. The scarabs of the Hyksos Period are very much the same. The Canaanite Civilization began ca. 3000 BC, lasted until ca. 1100 BC and encompassed Israel, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. Actually, the Canaanites founded Jerusalem around 2500 BC. The scarab was a common type of ring bezel, amulet or stamp seal found in Egypt, Nubia and Syria-Palestine.

A very nice Parthian bronze trilobate, socketed arrowpoint excavated on the site of an ancient settlement in northeastern Iran and dated ca. 200 BC. The article measures 2.3 cm and is covered with a green patina. The arrowhead is in excellent condition and the point and blades are still quite sharp.

At the time this arrowpoint was manufactured there were millions of bronze articles being made for the general population, businesses, the governments and the military.

The Parthians were extremely expert with the bow and arrow. During battle, in a false display of retreat, they would turn in their saddles and let go a very accurate shot. Thus the expression, "parting shot".

An Islamic-style terracotta oil lamp discovered on the Arabian Peninsula and dated ca. 900 - 1000 AD. The clay is an orange color and the lamp was mold made. It measures 9.35 cm and has a chipped tongue handle. The flat bottom has a base composed of five circles. A sharp ridge runs around the filler and wick-holes forming a channel on the nozzle. A light earthen encrustation covers the lamp and some carbon residue is to be seen around the wick-hole. Shipping is free and linear decorations are found on the shoulders. A nicely decorated Islamic-style terracotta oil lamp excavated in the Arabian Peninsula and dated 8th - 9th century AD. The clay is an orange color and the lamp was mold made and measures 9.85 cm. A light earthen encrustation covers the entire lamp and some carbon residue is to be seen around the wick-hole. The bottom is flat with a low pedestal base and a stabilized crack runs from the wick-hole, up the channel to the rear of the lamp. Numerous raised dots decorate the shoulders and the conical handle has been broken from the piece. Shipping is free and the lamp is in very good condition.

A plain stone stamp seal measuring 2 cm and dated to the 4th or 3rd millennium BC. The seal was discovered in northern Mesopotamia and has a drill-hole for stringing. The design is nine indentations so as to form nine raised dots when impressed and there are end-caps on each side of the drill-hole. Shipping is free and the seal is in excellent condition.

Seals were pressed into soft clay to leave an impression of the design. The clay was then used as a sealing device on shipping vessels or door latches so it could be ascertained whether or not the contents had been tampered with. Early seals were stamp seals with one or more flat sides depicting designs. Later seals were cylinder seals in a form that could be rolled over the wet clay to leave a continuous image.
