Relics of the Nile is pleased to present this ancient Greek terracotta figure of a Boeotian maiden (possible Aphrodite) from the Classical Period. She stands on a rectangular plinth with her left hand on her stomach and her right hand resting on what is possibly the edge of a piece of furniture or the top of a large jug. A lovely wine pouring vessel from the Greek colony of Gnathia (today called Ignazia) in the Apulian region of southern Italy. Dating to about 300 B.C., nicely decorated in traditional Gnathian patterns of grapevines, delicate flowers, "S" and "V" patterns in yellow, white and red pigments. 5-1/2"H, handle repaired, but otherwise choice. Ex-private Arizona Collection and acquired at a London auction in the 1970's.
