| Relics of the Nile is thrilled to present this magnificent ancient Egyptian artifact. This is a very rare fragment from a funerary bier. When an Egyptian died, he was placed on a funerary bier with the legs of a lion to undergo the mummification process. This is a piece of a leg that is getting exceedingly difficult to find outside a museum or private collection. This leg features a 3-tier foundation that originally linked it to the base. Please see the additional photographs to see the outstanding connection in the back where the tail of the lion was originally placed. The legs and feet are presented in wonderful detail. Even the toes were presented on the front and the piece remains intact with only damage to the front where fragmentation was caused when the beam connected to this leg split the front. This is an excellent opportunity and makes a great display. This piece measures an impressive 18" in height and 3.25" in width. Egypt, Late Period, 664 - 50 B.C. | ||
