Egyptian Funerary Box panel W/Snakes/Flowers!

Relics of the Nile is pleased to present this superb ancient Egyptian funerary panel. This piece is from the top portion of a funerary box, either an ushabti box or canopic box. This is a funerary piece as is displayed by the colors and styles used, as well as the display of the floral design and royal uraeus. This is a symbol of royalty, however in this case it is more a tribute to royalty or the king rather than as a possession of an actual royal member. It is more likely a symbol of the riches to come in the afterlife, although the owner would have needed to have some amount of wealth to afford the wood at all. This is likely, again, not royal because of the relatively crude depiction of the symbols. The colors are vibrant as presented in brown, yellow, white, and black. An additional item of interest is that the designs cover two sides of this piece, instead of one. The snake covers one side, while the floral design is on the other. The snake would have originally faced horizontally (slithering across the front of the box), while the floral design would have formed the top. In excellent condition, this makes an excellent display. Very large in size measuring 7.75" in length! Egypt, Ptolomaic Period, 350 - 50 B.C.
