Honeysuckle Design on Vest by Van Dyck
The image on the right is an enlarged study of the vest worn by the Mother in the Van Dyck portrait. The Portrait of a Woman and Child was painted in 1620-21 by Van Dyck. The unusual design on the vest matches that of Rubens. The embroidery design symbol means family love. Again, I believe this represents a Flemish Honeysuckle which appears in over 17 Flemish Old Master Paintings.
