An extremely rare bronze macehead or battle sceptre, 200 BC-200 AD. Very important and possible the finest known in the world of this integrated zoomorphic mace head. The mace consists of three parts - a top-piece with three zoomorphic figures - a massive middle part shaped as a chieftain or warriour w. azurite inlaid eyes - and a bottom piece, which is the typical starshaped mace form. All pieces are guaranteed ancient and belonged together, wooden shaft now missing. Costum quality display - metal foot and plexi stand. A very beautyful antiquity, pictures does not really do it justice! Size: 44 cm. when mounted to the stand. Ex. very important Danish Private collection, cleared for export. |
