Japanese Ikebana BASKET in a classic form with a wide collar. Beautiful patina but unfortunately this basket is damaged at the base (shown in photos) and two strips of bamboo have loosen from the base as well. Nice form, color but damage equals low price! Inset for flowers is not available. circa pre 1920, height is 11".

This stunning MORIKAGO,(fruit basket)looks almost new with a beautiful patina. Made by the second "best," ikebana basket artist at the turn of the century in Japan,it is of low circular form with basic twill plaiting, inscribed, "Shokosai kore zo," with a diameter of 16.12" Comes with the original kiriwood inscribed/seal marked box. circa pre 1920.

This IKEBANA BASKET is in ovoid form with a twisted loop handle woven in diagonal plait and is signed "Gyokkosai kore zo." It is in it's original kiriwood box "tomobako" with an insription and seal mark on the inside of lid. OFFERED @ Sotheby's, "Japanese Works of Art," New York, September 14, 1999, Lot 296, page 98.

A refreshing IMARI BOWL from Japan with two cracks which have been repaired which is somewhat visible. The central motif is a potted flowering bonsai plant, with three cartouches of a goose inside an enclosure with bamboo and other trees. One goose or perhaps a fat duck is upended downwards in the water. These same cartouches are repeated 3 times on the outside of this childlike bowl. Pair of Japanese Satsuma BOWLS with underglaze colbalt blue MYTHICAL ANIMALS inside cavetto. There is a "kara shishi," or lion-dog in the center, a "kirin," a "ryu" or dragon and a "hoo" or phoenix (bird) All with real gold accent marks painted in straiteted lines inside. The exterior is a scrolling peony design with lappets above the footrim.
